Human-LTM Conflict Occurs in Binjai, North Sumatra (January 28, 2023)
Posted on 14:42 January 30th, 2023

A group of long-tailed macaques (LTM) again disturbed the peace of the people in the Rambung village, South Binjai subdistrict, Binjai, North Sumatra province. Because of this disturbance, the community reported to BBKSDA Region 2 Stabat asking for a solution.

The BBKSDA-SU joint team has been trying to resolve the conflict for a week by installing trap cages so they can be moved to another location. So far, only one has made it into the trap cage, an adult male long-tailed monkey.  The LTM has been placed at the Scorpion Foundation facility in Medan while waiting for further instructions from BBKSDA-SU for a release into the wild.

Trap cages are still installed to catch other LTMs so they can be returned to nature in the group. This conflict is being handled by a team of 3 people (Rahmadhani from Scorpion, Faudumana and Rio Wldy Sembiring, each from BBKSDA SU).
