Four Brahminy kites (Haliastur indus) were captured by fishermen in the coastal area of Langkat Regency four months ago. The four birds were sold to the Habibie Accommodation officer who then displayed them next to the lodging building to entertain visitors of this small hotel. If left unchecked, the four birds will be in this hotel for the rest of their lives.

On Wednesday (18/08/2019) the Langkat district police, North Sumatra wildlife authority (BBKSDA) and Scorpion Foundation rangers took the four birds from the hotel and moved them to Sibolangit Wildlife Rescue Center while a hotel officer was taken to police office in Stabat, Langkat.

At Sibolangit Wildlife Rescue center, the four birds will undergo a medical check by  veterinarians and undergo a process at the center before they get the second chance live in their wild habitat.

The legal process of the illegal ownership of these birds is still ongoing at the Langkat Regency Police Resort in Stabat, North Sumatra province.

The four Braminy kites are kept illegally at Habibie Accommodation in Pangkalan Brandan, Langat.
