BBKSDA and Scorpion Rescue Two Gibbons in Medan, Sumatra (July 6, 2017)

The Wildlife Authority in North Sumatra (BBKSDA-SU) and the Scorpion Foundation rescued two gibbons from an illegal owner in Medan, North Sumatra on Thursday 6th of July 2017. The two animals consist of one Siamang gibbon (Symphalangus syndactylus) and one Agile gibbon (Hylobates agilis).

The two gibbons were moved to a quarantine center of  Bodichita Foundation in Barumun, South Tapanuli, approximately 500 kilometerns from Medan. These two protected animals will be in the quarantine for medical check and training prior to their release back in the wild in Barumun forest.


 

Agile gibbon, named Franky (female, approximately 5 years old) was rescued from an illegal owner today.

Some people are happy to see this Siamang gibbon inside a cage, but the animal looks so sad. She has been separated from her mother starting from one month old.
