A Joint Patrol in Batang Toru Ecosystem to Prevent Capture of Tapanuli Orangutan (August 13, 2020)
Posted on 01:04 August 14th, 2020

The Wildlife Authority (BBKSDA) in North Sumatra, Scorpion Foundation, and local villagers carried out a joint patrol  in Aek Nabara village,  Marancar subdistrict of South Tapanuli regency, to prevent capture of Tapanuli orangutan in the village.

In similar patrol in July 2020, the BBKSDA-SU and Scorpion encountered a juvenile Tapanuli orangutan (Pongo tapanuliensis) in this village and drove it away from this village into the forest. During the patrol this month, the team  did not encounter the orangutan anymore. This indicated that the orangutan was safe in the forest.
