A total of 60 endangered species of white cockatoos and red lories secured from above KM Sabu Nusantara 49 ship when the ship docked at the Port of Wini, North Insana sub-district, Timor Tengah Utara, East Nusa Tenggara province of Indonesia.
Confiscation of these rare animals was done on the coordination of Border Security Task force (Pamtas RI-RDTL) from the Indonesian Army, quarantine officer, port authority, and local police.
"We confiscate these endangered species because they are covered with documents. When we asked the ship owners, they did not give us explanation and we finally confiscate these endangered species together with the the team," said Captain Arm Hendriyana (from the Task Force) in Wini, Friday 10 of June 2016.
Hendriyana added, the 60 birds, 7 birds were able to escape because of bad cage.
These birds were seazed while on the way from Kisar island in Ambon to Kupang.
"At present, 53 birds were still in Wini quarantine," said Hendriyana.
