Agency for Environment and Forestry Laws (PPHLK) in North Sumatra province, a
new agency under the Directorate General of Law Enforcement at the Ministry of
Environment and Forestry (MoEF) performed a good job by raiding 332 illegal
birds in North Sumatra.
The birds are now placed
in Siantar Zoo, North Sumatra, while a small number are kept at Forestry Police
Rapid Response Unit (SPORC) office in Medan for legal process. According
information obtained by Scorpion Foundation today (16 June 2016), the birds will
be released in the wild after the fasting month.
Raiding of the birds in
Kisaran was carried out by PPHLK’s Leopard Brigade of the SPORC in cooperation with
North Sumatra provincial police on Sunday, 12 June 2016 at Jalan Kartini, North
Kisaran, Asahan Regency in North Sumatra Province. The head of PPHLK in North
Sumatra, Halasan Tulus told the
media, Leoard Brigade and the police succesfully confiscated the birds but the
owner managed to escape.
“The bird owner with initial R, managed to escape
but the case will still be processed accoring to Law Number 5/1990 article 21
by the PPHLK and the North Sumatra police,” Halasan Said.
The confiscated birds include common hill mynas, starlings, magpies, lories. (metrotvnews.com).
