North Sumatra Wildlife Authority (BBKSDASU) Evacuates a Long-tailed Macaque from BinjaI (August 18, 2024)

East Binjai: -  Accompanied by Scorpion Indonesia Foundation the BBKSDASU evacuated a long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis) from the firefighters office (Damkar) in East Binjai, North Sumatra province,  on Sunday (2024/08/18). This animal was brought to Scorpion Foundation office in Medan and then translocated  to Scorpion's Macaque Rescue Center in Hapesong Baru Village, Batangtoru subdistrict of South Tapanuli Regency.

In Batangtoru, this macaque will undergo a health examination and rehabilitation process and will then be returned to the wild when ready.

The firefighters in Binjai explained to the evacuation team (Rahmadhani from Scorpion and Rio Waldy Sembiring from BBKSDASU) that previously the macaque was handed over to the Damkar office in Binjai because it was involved in a conflict with the community. This animal attacked a person which resulted in the victim being hospitalized. Since then the owner did not want to still maintaining it.
