Illegal Keeping of Four Endemic Songbirds in Batang Toru Ecosystem, Sumatra (September 24, 2020)

On September 24, 2020, a day after the confiscation of protected birds in Aek Pining village, a joint team consisting of wildlife authorities (BBKSDA SU) and the Scorpion Foundation conducted monitoring and control of suspected illegal keeping and trading of wildlife in Batang Toru Ecosystem, Sumatra. With assistance of investigations from the Scorpion Foundation (16/09), the team managed to find a local resident in the village of Siharak Karang who illegally kept four Sumatran laughingthrush (Garrulax bicolor). The Sumatran laughingthrush is one of the songbirds in Indonesia, an endangered (EN) and endemic species in Sumatra.

Pada 24 September 2020, sehari setelah penyitaan burung-burung yang dilindungi di Desa Aek Pining, tim gabungan yang terdiri dari otoritas satwa liar dan Scorpion Foundation melakukan pemantauan dan pengendalian terhadap dugaan penyimpanan dan perdagangan satwa liar secara ilegal di Ekosistem Batang Toru, Sumatera. Dengan bantuan penyelidikan dari Scorpion Foundation (16/09), tim berhasil menemukan seorang warga di Desa Siharak Karang yang secara ilegal menyimpan empat Burung Poksai Sumatera (Garrulax bicolor). Poksai Sumatera adalah salah satu burung penyanyi berasal dari Indonesia, spesies langka (EN) dan endemik di Sumatera.
