Dog - Wild Boar Fight is a violation of article 302 of Indonesian Criminal Code which says whoever torture animal can be charged as crime. Governor Heryawan stated this in his letter (ref.302/yy/Hurham) to all regency heads and mayors in West Java. Scorpion Foundation (also known as Scorpion Wildlife Trade Monitoring Group) received a copy of the official letter from governor office today (Friday, November 3, 2017).
In order to realize the order and tranquility of the people in West Java Province, regency heads and mayors are asked to issue regulations to ban dog-wild boar fight in its area, although it is a long tradition of West Java society.
"Regulation to ban dog-wild boar show must be immediately socialized to all communities, local government officials, and to law enforcement agencies in cooperation with local police, as well as to unofficial sub-village officers, the governor stated in the letter.
Last month, Scorpion Foundation carried out a demonstration in front of Governor office in Bandung protesting the dog-wild boar performances in West Java.
