1,000 Illegal Birds On Sale in Tanjung Karang, Sumatra (November 1, 2016)
Posted on 20:54 November 01st, 2016

About 1,000 birds on sale illegally at Jalan Pemuda bird market in Tanjung Karang, Lampung province in Sumatra Island. Birds brought to this place from Sumatra forests around the province of Lampung.

Scorpion has checked to some of the shop owners their animals were brought to this market with coverage of transport document (SATS-DN) from the office of relevant wildlife authority (BKSDA). Scorpion found, they did not have the SATS-DN of their animals.

From an observation in this market last week, Scorpion saw some Nias parrots hidden inside a shop but the bird is not displayed in the shop. Looks like they already understand that species are protected by law.

There are five shops at Jalan Pemuda market, each has about 200 birds.
