Sorpion Indonesian Scorpion Foundation attended a series of meetings in Central Tapanuli Regency from 12 to 13 September 2023. The theme of this meeting was to socialize the mitigation of orangutan conflicts with humans in two sub-districts in Central Tapanuli, namely Lumut District and Tukka District.
In Lumut, the meeting was attended by the Lumut Subdistrict Head, Scorpion Foundation staff, Aris Dedi Daulay, 5 village heads from the villages of Huta Bolon, Sipange, Bonan Lumban, Aek Bottar, Simaninggir, and Tapian Nauli.
The meeting was filled with presentations from the Orangutan Information Center (OIC) introducing orangutan issues to Lumut sub-district heads and five village heads who are located close to orangutan habitat. Meanwhile, BKSDA conveyed the laws and regulations prohibiting hunting of protected animals, keeping and selling protected animals, especially orangutans. BBKSDASU invites village heads so that if an orangutan disturbs the community's garden, they can immediately contact BBKSDA for the safety of the orangutans.
On Wednesday, September 13 2023, the same activity was continued at the Tukka sub-district office, Central Tapanuli Regency.
In Tukka, village heads are calling for banners to be put up containing information about handling orangutan conflicts. Apart from that, the village heads also requested that there be economic development activities for the community around the orangutan habitat so that the orangutans are maintained.
