A local resident of Medan handed over a slow loris to
the Wildlife Authority (BBKSDA) in North Sumatra on Thursday afternoon (17th
of November 2016). The hand-over took place in front of the house of the owner
at Pencawan village in Tuntungan sub-district of Medan.
The slow loris was accepted by BBKSDA and
subsequently translocated to the facility of Indonesian Species Conservation
Programme (ISCP) in Medan for health care. This protected animal will be released
back in the wild when it is ready.
The owner of the slow loris Mr. Darminta Purba told
Scorpion volunteer that this animal came to the front of his house 11 months
ago and kept it at his house. He was not aware before that this animal was
protected by the law until recently he heard television news saying the slow
loris was protected, therefore, he decided to hand it over to BKSDA in North Sumatra.
Meanwhile, on 2nd of November 2016 another local resident of Sibolangit in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, also handed over a clouded leopard to BBKSDA in North Sumatra. This animal is now still in the care of the ISCP. This animal will also be released in the wild when it's ready.
