Polisi Kehutanan dari Otoritas Satwa Liar (BBKSDA SU SKW V) bersama Rangers dari SCORPION Foundation menemukan bekas penebangan liar di Huraba, Kecamatan Angkola Timur, Kabupaten Tapanuli Selatan, Sumatera Utara (28/04). Temuan tersebut didapati saat dilakukannya patroli gabungan antara BBKSDA dan SCORPION, yang bertujuan untuk mencegah penangkapan Orangutan tapanuli dan perlindungan Ekosistem Batang Toru.

Tim patroli menduga ada 30 pohon yang ditebang secara ilegal. Kayu hasil penebangan liar tersebut diyakini diambil dari kawasan Cagar Alam Dolok Sibualbuali. Menindaklanjuti temuan tersebut, tim patroli telah mengamankan kayu hasil penebangan liar tersebut dan kemudian menghancurkannya. Beberapa orang lokal juga telah diwawancarai untuk keperluan investigasi lanjutan. Selain itu, sarang hewan yang diduga sarang orangutan juga ditemukan di sekitar wilayah ini.

Patrol teams suspect 30 trees were illegally felled. The illegal logging wood is believed to be taken from the Dolok Sibualbuali Nature Reserve area. Following up on the findings, the patrol team secured the illegal logging and then destroyed it. Several local people have also been interviewed for the purposes of further investigation.
