Almost in every major cities in Indonesia, bird markets can always be found. Birds are vacuumed from the forest without proper permits. Transportation from the forests to wildlife markets are also carried out without permits while control from Natural Resources Conservation Agencies ( BKSDA’s) over the illegal harvesting and transportation of the wild birds is very week.
Scorpion foundation is very worry about the disappearing of birds from the forests . People who often call themselves as “bird lovers”, in practice, act cruelty to the birds. To assess the situation of bird sales, during the first month of this year (January 2016) and early February, Scorpion foundation visited bird markets in several major cities including in North Sumatra, Jakarta, East Java, West Java, and Jogjakarta.
