An Aceh based Non-Government Organisation (NGO), Lembaga
Suar Galang Keadilan (LSGK) and the Scorpion Wildlife Foundation (also known as
Scorpion Wildlife Trade Monitoring Group) from North Sumatra carried a joint consolidation
meeting in Banda Aceh to discuss partnership in helping the government to
protect the biodiversity through law enforcement.
During the meeting, representatives from both organisations
discussed about the illegal capture of wildlife in Aceh and how they were
transported to North Sumatra and to some other cities including Jakarta. According
to the monitoring of the Scorpion Foundation, the wildlife from Aceh continue
to enter the wildlife markets in Medan.
Currently, wildlife shops in Medan are increasing in number selling wildlife coming from Aceh.
