On October 27, 2020, the team from BBKSDA SU SKW II Stabat (Wildlife Authority) together with the Field Staff of SCORPION Foundation released two macaques in Karang Gading Wildlife Reserve, Sumatra.
The released macaques are a long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis) named Caca who was evacuated on September 23, 2020 in Medan Polonia, while a pig-tailed macaque (Macaca nemestrina) named Damak, was evacuated from Lau Damak Village on October 16, 2020. Both were healthy, wild, and aggressive when released.
Karang Gading Wildlife Reserve is one of the protected forests in Sumatra which is directly adjacent to the sea. To reach the release site, the team had to cross the river in a canoe, ensuring that the river was far away from humans.
