Close down all illegal wildlife sales in Indonesia. The wildlife belongs in the wild. Indonesian Law No. 5/1990 says: Every person who kill, capture, keep protected species (alive or dead) can be sentenced to five years in jail and fine of IDR100 million (US$7,400.00).

Pteropus vampyrus is categorised as "Near Threatened" on the IUCN Red List. They are on sale only about 100 meters from the governor's house at Jalan Sudirman, Medan.

The man who sells the KALONG is Mr. Karo-karo. He catches the kalongs in West Aceh district, province of Aceh. He wants to sell the kalong at a price between IDR300,000 (USD23.00) to IDR325,000 (USD25.00) per individual depending on size. In North Sumatra it is widely, but mistakenly, believed that eating kalong can cure asthma
