Scorpion and Partners Return a Pangolin Cub to the Wild Habitat (March 14, 2017)

The Scorpion Wildlife Trade Monitoring Group, the Indonesian Species Conservation Programme (ISCP) and the Wildlife Authority (BKSDA) North Sumatra returned a pangolin cub to the wild habitat in Sibolangit forest, Deli Serdang District of North Sumatra province today (Tuesday night, 14th of March 2017).

Scorpion, ISCP and the BBKSDA carried out a join outreach programme in Rumah Kinangkung SP village in Sibolangit by visiting local villagers both at homes and in coffee shops explain that hunting, keeping, and trading of protected animal can result in 5 years in jail plus IDR100 million fine.

After hearing the explanation from the awareness team, a villager Putra Alam Tarigan voluntarily handed over his pangolin cub to the wildlife authority. According to Tarigan, he captured the pangolin cub near his house in Rumah Kinangkung SP village yesterday (Monday, 13th of March 017).

Scorpion regularly carries out outreach programme for wildlife awareness in Sumatra including in the west-coast of Aceh, and in North Sumatra. Outreach activity in Aceh is supported by the Global Greengrant Fund, Orangutan Foundation, The Orangutan Project (TOP), and some others.
